Online classes and I

6/01/2021 08:00:00 pm

Assalamualaikum

It has been 5 months since my last update. Nothing has changed much except that I am now in the 6th semester of my degree. It has been 1 year and 3 months since I started online classes. I have shared my thoughts before on what I felt, if you are interested in reading that, you can click >here<. I went back to my home in Selangor in February, and now I am back here in Perlis. There are procedures that we have to follow to allow us to be here. My university gave us 2 choices by either doing a swab test or isolation. And I chose the swab test as I want to make sure that I really have not caught any virus. Thankfully, the test was negative.

Today I want to share with you how I take my notes during online classes. I know most students don't really take notes as they rely on the lecture's notes, but taking my own notes has been the most effective. You can click on the pictures to see them in better resolution.

1. During class.
There are 2 ways on how I take notes during class.
            i) If my lecturers did not give lecture's notes beforehand.

This also depends on the format of the notes. Usually come will give in pdf and others will give in PowerPoint. I annotate all the things that my lecturers said that is not available in the notes. for example, new information or detailed explanation that is not included in the notes. This is important as lecturers love asking things out of the notes during tests or quizzes. I use a pen tablet to write on the slide. I used Wacom One that I bought from Shopee (not spons). I bought it during a sale, so the price was not that high.

This is an example of taking note while in synchronous class. I usually put my note and Google meet side by side like this, so that I know what page the lecturer is on. I don't use any special apps, just use the existing Microsoft PowerPoint and the draw function. You will automatically get it when you connect your laptop to your pen tablet.

This is an example of lecture's notes in pdf format. I just use the normal, free Acrobat Reader and use the comment and highlight feature. I don't usually write on pdf because the pen is not that good, in my opinion. So I just use the comment feature and note down everything my lecturer said.

And lastly, this is an example of me taking notes during asynchronous class. I have synchronous classes during the day and asynchronous classes during the night (who says ODL is not stressing?) My lecturers will provide us with recorded videos for us to review during the class. There is no difference between sync and async classes except that one is pre-recorded and the other is a real-time online class.

ii) If my lecturers did not provide any notes beforehand

This is where I have to really focus in class, and most of the time failed to do so... I use my notebooks and write as notes simple as possible. It is still the same concept except without lecture notes, so I have to write twice faster. Both what is written on the notes and what is not written in the notes.

2. After class
I use OneNote as my go-to digital note-taking app. At first, I can't really get used to it, but slowly but surely I can control my handwriting. It feels write to write on en tablet while your eyes are glued to the laptop's screen. I started doing digital notes by the end of last semester. It is because I feel like using papers are such a waste of resource. My whole university life has me writing notes on books and papers. Don't get me wrong, it does work and easier to flip through. But more and more I think this is not worth it especially when having online classes where lecture notes are digitally too.

This is a sample of my note in OneNote. I rarely do this as my classes already consume most of my time. I barely have time to do my assignments, so writing a full note is something I do when I really have time. Otherwise, I just rely on the notes I wrote during the lectures.

This post is getting long now, so I am just going to stop here. I wish all students fighting! I am here in Perlis because I have lab works I have to complete. I haven't started my lab yet, as it is scheduled to start next week but we will see since we are in lockdown right now. I just want to start and end this lab for good now.

Take care of yourself 💖

Until I write again,
Assalamualaikum.

New semester begins

10/18/2020 11:29:00 pm
Assalamualaikum

Tomorrow marks the first day on my new semester. I am entering my third year of degree. I was supposed to be at my university by today as I will have my first class tomorrow. But as you all know, it did not happen as we all thought it would. My uni decided to move the date to the end of this month. Those who have lab, or doesn't have conducive learning environment are required to go back. Except, of course those who are in red zones and who are in CMCO areas.

I have 1 subject that requires our attendance for lab time. By the end of this month, I'll have to be at my uni already. (but that can change any time now) Thankfully, they will send uni buses in every state as they don't let us to use public transport. That's great in case something happens, it will be easier to trace.

As for my preparation, it has been a while since I last study. Since end of June. Almost 4 months now.  Hopefully I'll be able to keep my focus during class. Tulisan pun dah buruk. The thing that has been bothering us for a week now is our class schedule. Most of those in my class have 2 subjects overlap with each other for an hour. An hour is a long time kot. We have two choices: either drop one subject or learn by watching recorded video. Well, we will see what happen this week.

My classes will be running from morning to night. At 11pm the most. Of course, with loads of gaps in between. This is the first time we will have classes at night for 7 consecutive days. The night classes will be just us watching recorded videos. Since this is the first time my uni do this kind of learning, I hope I won't be too lazy to not watch it. My wish for this semester is to learn things effectively. I have 7 subjects (23 unit) this semester. 6 of them are core subjects.

Please take care of yourselves! Wear mask and stay at home unless you really need to go out. Praying for this pandemic to quickly be gone.

Good luck to those who are starting (or already started) new semester!

Until I write again,
Assalamualaikum

Road to Intern

10/25/2018 12:51:00 pm

Assalamualaikum

Alhamdulillah I have finish my exhibition on 22nd of October haritu. Then I went back home on 23rd October. I kid you not, it was super tiring I ended up sleeping the whole journey away.

I would like to share with you the day of our exhibition. We was the first batch of diploma to do this exhibition. Biasanya degree je yang kena buat exhibition for their final year project. But this time, our dean wanted us to do the same. The exact name of the exhibition was 'Diploma Exhibition of Technology and Engineering' as known as DEXTEr 2018.

For my course we just have do some testing and that was it. It is quite easier than other courses yang kena buat prototype, model whatsoever. As my course related to metal, we just need to do some testing on metal and observing the microstructures and that's it. Also, we have to do our project individually. The only thing yang kena goreng masa present pun about the microstructure lah... and result.

I had told my project title before, but in case you're wondering my title was

The Effect of Solution Concentration in Copper Electroplating on Stainless Steel

Alhamdulillah, I get to explain my project calmly. Although before that I was a nervous mess. But I kind of failed when explaining my result as I did not get what I was supposed to get. It's an experiment guys, it tend to get a little error in some places.

Then in the afternoon until evening, we have IR 4.0 talk and closing ceremony of the DEXTEr 2018. This is the moment where most of us already 'tewas'. We were so sleepy, some already fell asleep in the hall during the talk. Me and a friend of mine managed to stay awake although mata pun dah kuyu semacam je 😂

All in all, I am glad it is over now and everything is in the past. All the sweats, almost crying moments during completing our projects are gone. Now is the road to our internship.

I do not know if I can reveal where I am going to do my internship, but all I can say is it is one of the government institutes. I think you can guess dah kut because in the last post I already told you the location hehe.

I hope everything is going well. I have rent a room and we are going to finalize everything by next week, insyaAllah.

- - - - -

My mom wants me to continue my studies in degree, but I have not decided yet what course I should take. Shall I continue studying metal or is it the time for me to change to materials? I have not decide it yet, but I probably going to study material engineering next.

Let's hold this decision for future me... 😚

How is everyone doing? It's convocation time, isn't it? Do you have anyone in your family, friends or are you going to or had convocation? If so,

Congratulations to all graduates 💐🎉

Next year is going to be my turn pulak, insyaAllah.

Until I write again,
Assamualaikum.

Yeay dah habis diploma! EH (?)

10/12/2018 09:38:00 pm

Assalamualaikum

How have you been? Everything is good? Great!

I just finish my final exam on Wednesday and it felt so good. I do not have to be worrying about all those chapters I have not covered yet. This is probably what I have been waiting for since I start my diploma 2 years ago haha

Remember these last 2 posts where I had been whining about not getting a place for my internship? Eh you probably would not remember it. I mean that's a veeeeery long ago. Alhamdulillah, I have gotten my internship offer. Not one, but 2 offers. Alhamdulillah. I have accepted one of them, but now I have to be worrying about a place to stay pulak. By the way, my internship place is at Kajang. so hi orang Kajang 👋 What should I expected when living in Kajang?

Sebenarnya, tak habis lagi pun diploma ni. Tajuk tu saja nak buat gempak je hehe. I still have exhibition for my final year project this 22nd October. Please wish my good luck 🙏 I hope all my hard work regarding this final year project will be worth it. Also, I still have to do my internship for about 4 months. So yeah, good luck to me yeay.

Who's the same as me? Good luck to you too 💖 *sending virtual good luck*

I would like to overview some of my experience in my 5th semester of diploma;

First time donate blood 💉

Yeay! The nurse (or doctor? idk i'm dumb) took 350ml of my blood which I think is a standard volume for each pack, I guess. But it looks lots for a first timer like me 😅 It was an experience I treasure. I did feel a bit nausea and almost faint, but that is probably my fault. As I was the last person to donate the blood, they were cleaning up the place and I felt like I was a nuisance. So, I decided to get out as fast as possible. But it sure is a mistake for me. I am truly going to remember that.

First time got stung by a wasp 🐝

Have you ever heard of how dangerous and evil a wasp is? Yep, I can confirm that. I was minding my own business at a bistro, then I went to pay for my food. After that, I went back to my seat to take my bag and guess what? The wasp out of nowhere come and stung my thigh. I did not realise there was a wasp, I only realise it when I felt the pain. And oh god, the pain is truly unbearable.

I felt like my whole leg is on fire. It truly a pain I did not want to repeat again. The first moment I got into my room, I literally googled on what to do after being stung by a wasp. Then I go take a shower and clean the area. After that I out some medicine oil given by my friend. My friend then went to buy some ice and the whole night I put the ice around the area.

The next morning, the place still hurt a little but bearable lah. By afternoon, rasa sakit or even bengkak pun dah tak ada. So yeah, it's a tips guys. Put ice to avoid swollen and reduce pain my evil wasps.

My second time went to a camp 🌳

The last time I went to a camp was when I was form 2 - fourteen year old. Yeah, almost 6 years ago. I hate going to a camp and this camp is no better. I hate all the rushing but the organizer pun tak ikut masa 😕 all those yelling and getting mad at nothing and everything... uggghh

These three je kut yang I get to think right now. Let me share other thing in my next post (maybe after exhibition?) Bye guys!

Until I write again,
Assalamualaikum.

How is your life right now? Any exciting things happen or got any recommendation for me?

p/s: I know the emoji was a bee, but there's no wasp emoji. Why would there be one? Wasp is an evil lol

Rant: life motivation (?)

12/02/2016 05:33:00 pm

Assalamualaikum

First of all ai nak cakap sorry because I didn't update anything ever since masuk sem kedua ni.

And it's already December! Can you believe it? Cepat betul masa berlalu, huhu. Lagi sebulan je nak tinggalkan 2016. So far 2016 have given me lots of experiences as university student and as a human being. Right now I just want to keep my mind set on being a dean list student and be a better human.

I was doing my ferrous metal assignment when suddenly I feel like updating my blog. Can you believe that not once in my life I ever think of writing an assignment about metal or explaining mechanisn of blast furnace? Sometimes it feels surreal to me, because when I was a kid I want to be someone else - learn different thing than I am now.

Some of my ambitions were being a scientist, then a writer, then a pharmacist. I chose to be those people because every time I think of the word "engineering" is that the job is for guys only. Yes, that's how narrow minded I was.

But right now, alhamdulillah I can find the joy of learning new things (and having love-hate relationship with all these subjects) - although it's majority about iron, steel etc. things I never want to know about. I just want to learn more and perfect my skills to be a great engineer / metallurgist. Although I'm still a first year diploma, what's wrong with dream high? Maybe that dream can be a reality someday.

So for those girls out there who's still in school, never hesitate to challenge yourself to learn new things - even though people keep saying the course is for 'male' or whatever. You do what you want, because no matter what you choose patience, hardwork and determination are the keys to success.

- - -

Sorry I never intended for this post to be a motivation speech or whatever. I just don't know what to update about and suddenly all these ideas come flowing from my mind and I can't seem to make my fingers to stop typing. But I'm going to stop here because I need to finish my assignment. Okay, bye.

Don't forget to head to HERMO because they're having Christmas Sale and it's gonna be super lit! They also have spin & win up to RM50 voucher, so don't miss that up. This sale is available from 1 December to 31 December 2016. Let's take a time to treat yourself by shopping all these beauty products  from HERMO (I'm dying to get my hands on them already) 🎉

UPU

5/17/2016 12:07:00 pm

Assalamualaikum

Aku pun macam, okay faham ramai orang nak check jugak kan. Jadi aku pun rileks la dulu kan. Nanti boleh check lagi.

Tepat pukul 12: 04 tengahari, UPU tu mesej aku, kata aku berjaya ditawarkan Program Dipoma dekat Universiti Malaysia Perlis. Masa dapat mesej tu, memang aku berdebar gila. Firstly, fikir tak sangka dapat universiti kat sana. Secondly, sebab jauh gila dari rumah - aku bukanlah seorang yang reti berdikari, masa pergi KLCC pun tersalah naik train ಡ_ಡ. Lepas tu aku bagitahu kakak dengan mak aku. Dorang pun macam, "lah kenapa jauh sangat". Sebab kalau boleh memang mak aku nak aku belajar dekat-dekat je. Kalau kat Johor ke, okay la jugak kan.

Banyak kali jugak la fikir nak pergi ke tak sebab ayah aku kerja kat Sabah, jadi dia tak dapat la nak hantar aku masuk uni. Mak aku pulak tak reti bawak kereta, so bab pengangkutan tu payah sikit la.

Bila keluarga, kawan-kawan semua tanya kej. metalurgi tu apa, aku jawab "metal. black metal. dan heavy metal." haha okay, hambar. Belajar pasal logam, ngadap kimia lagi. Okay tu je. Bye

p/s i; InsyaAllah, 29 Mei ni pergi daftar pastu terus masuk first sem.
p/s ii; nanti rindu family, rindu kucing, first time tak puasa sama-sama _
